I love working in the morning before anyone else in my house is up. Hot coffee nearby.
No noise. It gives me time to think and focus.
I'm most creative at this time and more likely to do work in Excel.
That's what I am doing this morning. Fixing a report that came out of a compensation tool that I am sure no experienced comp person approved.
The layout sucks. Blank lines. Averages on lines below the raw data. Ugh. I need to copy/paste a ridiculous number of items into different cells to get it into a database format so I can run filters, pivot tables, and other calcs.
I'm gonna help the employer move away from this comp tool to a different one that is cheaper, has higher quality comp data (it isn't crowd sourced), and the reporting functionality is SWEET.
I can't wait to review the reports after we get the jobs, employees, market pricing matches, and geo locations in the new comp tool.
My team will fix their grades and ensure that the geo differential approach is simple and easy to explain to employees.
That's what keeps me going. Hope.
Hope for better. And early quiet mornings...with hot coffee.
