Am I Disposable?

After being laid off, it can be difficult to feel valued.

You may have been “on the list” with oodles of other people but it hurts when you are told your job is being eliminated.

And in a work world that treats us as widgets instead of human beings, it can make us feel disposable. Like we don’t matter.

And yet we do matter.

We matter to the postal worker who delivers our mail.

We matter to the dog or cat that is longing for breakfast.

We matter to our kids who need their diaper changed or need more money in their bank account. (Yes, I’m thinking of my daughter at college right now.)

We matter to each other because we depend on each other.

Connection. Community. Compassion. These are needs we all have.

So, don’t isolate yourself if you are feeling disposable right now.

Call a friend. Take the dog for a walk. Talk to the postal worker when they deliver your mail and say “hello.”

And if you need an introduction to one of my contacts, tell me who. I’ll make it happen.

We need each other. And you matter. Every. Single. Day.
