You can’t lead others past the point where you have led yourself.
Read that again.
· If you want your team members to have actions consistent with their words, you need to do that as well.
· If you want a team member to demonstrate self-awareness and emotional regulation, you must do that.
· If you want someone with high potential to adjust their habits and become more intentional, you should do that too.
· If you want to live a life aligned to your values, show others around you how you focus on that in your daily interactions and decisions.
What you struggle with and solve through awareness and new habits will be the model others follow.
If you don’t want to lead, then get out of the way and let others be the role model.
Sometimes others aren’t the problem. We are.
Why?
Because we are expecting others to do better than we are doing ourselves.
And it is okay to ask for help. None of us becomes a better version of ourselves without support.
