I often have recruiters reach out to me asking if I know of someone who would be a good candidate for an open compensation job. I usually share the job opening with my network and wish the recruiter luck.
It is difficult to get great compensation professionals to move from their current job to a new company.
Why? Because once you have created a systemic and successful job architecture, built your personal brand that includes trust and competence, and can influence key stakeholders to positively impact big goals, you just don’t want to move on from that.
It takes years to develop the compensation team members, the compensation processes, and make it all work well. You must also develop relationships and healthy collaboration across the HR function, finance, and business leaders.
There is a tremendous amount of work and expertise in our Professional Body of Work. See the picture above.
Our profession continues to become more complex and is an integral part of any successful organization. We influence the biggest expense of any employer which is the cost of labor.
And today the focus on pay transparency to solve the pay equity gap is making our jobs even more important.
