When the temperatures start dropping, those eight-legged creatures start moving indoors. I don’t like them.
I envision them all over my house having babies and partying.
Today a spider was in the shower with me, and I happily washed it down the drain. As I was secretly celebrating, I remembered the story of Charlotte’s Web.
Charlotte, the spider, was so kind to Wilbur, the pig. When he found out he was going to be slaughtered in the winter, she spun words in her web. She was determined to save him and keep him safe.
Templeton, the rat, brings labels and bits of paper with words for Charlotte to use. She copies the words and uses her web making skills to help Wilbur.
Some Pig. Terrific. Humble. Radiant.
Charlotte gets tired while they are at the fair and eventually dies. (I cry every time I get to this part.) But Charlotte and her web of words saves Wilbur.
It is amazing what the power of friendship and your actions can do. Words are powerful too.
Wilbur takes Charlotte’s egg sac home to the farm, and her many babies are born. Three of them become his friends. Joy, Aranea and Nellie. And the circle of life goes on.
The next time I find a spider in my house, I am going to hesitate before killing it. What if it is someone’s Charlotte?
Be a friend like Charlotte today and every day.
We all need friends that care about us so use your words and actions to make a difference.
