My daughter was home from college last week because of Spring Break. I took some time off to spend with her and we enjoyed soaking in hot springs, eating great food, napping, reading, and viewing snow-covered trees and mountains.
We also spent time sitting in traffic on I-70 here in Colorado as we made our way back to Denver from Buena Vista. This was the day after snowmagedden. Just imagine lots of semis and people driving back to Denver after skiing with big piles of snow alongside the highway.
We listened to her music as we inched our way toward the Eisenhower-Johnson Tunnels. And then I chose a John Denver playlist. There is nothing like singing Rocky Mountain High at the top of one’s lungs while driving through the mountains.
I realize that time with my daughter is precious and know that upcoming Spring Breaks will not be with me. Instead, I hope she is with her college friends on a beach somewhere. I have fond memories of my trip to South Padre Island at her age.
Today while I get caught up and spend time in spreadsheets, I’m going to also be thinking about our conversation in the hot springs with the snow falling gently, winter stocking caps on our heads, and steam surrounding us in the pools.
Don’t choose work over the time you can spend with loved ones.
It is magical to make memories and then reflect upon them later.
