Each of us deals with situations we didn’t expect to have to deal with.
When my husband was 38 years old, he was diagnosed with tongue cancer. We had just purchased the home I am sitting in now.
We had only been married for two years. No kids yet.
I remember that The Godfather movies were on television that weekend after we received Keith’s cancer diagnosis. I remember crying and reaching for tissue after tissue to dry my tears and blow my nose. (And seriously wondering how much snot a human can produce.)
Fast foward to today. Keith’s been dead for 11 years. Our kids are thriving. So am I.
When things happen we don’t expect, we create a story or meaning to go along with that situation.
What story are you creating around things in your life that are unexpected?
“Cancer is evil and destroyed my life and took my husband from me and my kids.”
Or…
“Cancer change my life and my kids’ lives. It taught me to be thankful for each moment. I am grateful when I wake up each day. I treasure my time and look forward to impacting the lives of those around me in a positive way. I will never take my health and well-being for granted.”
Manage your mindset. You get to choose the meaning and stories that shape your life.
