There are several ways we feel valued at work.
· We are given work to do that is challenging and helps us to grow.
· Our manager tells us that our work on Project ABC was excellent.
· We received a larger base pay increase than we expected.
· Our strengths are recognized and used to make a big impact on the company or department goals.
· Coworkers’ expressed appreciation for our efforts and how we collaborated.
· The bonus we received is more than the target amount.
· Our performance feedback and rating were aligned to how we think about our results, and we trust our manager not to be biased.
· Your colleagues bring up difficult topics and while the conversations may be uncomfortable the result is understanding and an agreed upon path forward.
Often, I hear from coaching clients and employers that these things don’t happen.
And then everyone involved is disappointed, frustrated, and grieving that their expectations and needs are not being met.
So, you have choices.
· “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” --Mahatma Gandhi
· “If you're going through hell, keep going." --Winston Churchill
· “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” -- Albert Einstein
Live your life aligned to your values. You get to define what success means for you.
Keep going. One foot in front of the other. Don’t give up.
Sometimes changing jobs is the only way to a better life.
