When was the last time you received something unexpected?

Maybe it was someone paying for your coffee before you got to the cashier. A pay-it-forward drive-thru chain was in place and you reaped the benefit from kind strangers.

Someone is ahead you in the checkout line at the grocery store, and they are not able to pay for everything they selected. Someone else in line says, “Wait. I’ve got this.” And they pay for everything.

Your manager sees your potential to contribute to a larger project than you have ever been assigned before. They give you an opportunity to demonstrate to others what they know you can do.

Someone smiles at you when you were having a bad day and it made you smile in return.

You bring in donuts to the office on Valentine’s Day, because you want the people you work with to all have something special to enjoy.

Or you send a gift card for coffee or lunch to a colleague working remotely to give them a reason to smile today.

Sometimes the generosity of others is the difference between a good day and a great day. And sometimes it is the thing that makes you decide to wake up the next day and try again.
