Are you getting left out of meetings?
Are decisions being made without your input and in the past, you would have been involved?
Are some of your job duties being taken away and given to someone else?
Have you had a career development conversation and then your manager started acting differently?
You are committed to your job and employer but…something is off in how you are now being treated.
We hear about layoffs all the time, but what we don’t hear about is getting forced out of your job.
Managers or other decision makers have decided to make your life miserable at work, so you quit. Or they change their behavior slowly over time, so you have doubts. Then when you ask what is wrong, they gaslight you.
Maybe your age, gender, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation makes you stand out in comparison to your coworkers. You haven’t felt like you truly belonged but now it is even worse.
What should you do?
(1) Dust off your resume and update your LinkedIn profile. Start connecting with former colleagues and let people know you are conducting a job search.
(2) That side hustle you’ve been thinking about - start the LLC and create a basic website. Start talking to your ideal clients about what you offer.
(3) Cut expenses. Save as much money as possible to ensure that you have an emergency fund in case you must leave your current job without another job lined up.
(4) The only thing you control is your reaction to what is happening. Refocus on YOU. Dial back on focusing on your employer’s needs and focus on your needs.
(5) And build daily habits that will help you reach your goals.
Life isn’t fair. You will have many employers during your career. And no one will take care of you as well as you take care of yourself.
Let’s talk if you need help deciding on your next steps or negotiating your new job offer.
