It's great when you wake up on a Monday and look forward to the week ahead. The people and work you'll be focused on have you smiling.
You feel like you will be challenged and get to be creative. You get to use your strengths over and over to make a difference.
You'll have conversations with people who are interested in solving problems in a way that is healthy and focused on balancing the needs of all parties involved.
It's awful when you feel like you want to go back to bed on a Monday and hide from the week ahead.
You don't trust the people you work with.
You don't like much of the work you are doing, or it isn't challenging.
You don't believe you can change your work situation enough to make the urge to hide go away.
You're burned out, exhausted, and longing for a change. You have no energy to tap into and you are just going through the motions.
Feeling this way isn't sustainable and yet you don't know what to do first to move in a different (hopefully better) direction.
We should talk.
I woke up today excited to start my day. I am looking forward to the work I'll do this week and the people I will interact with.
But I've also been on the other side. The dark side when the urge to hit the snooze button was BIG. When I laid in bed and didn't have the energy to do more than the bare minimum.
I cried on the drive home from the office. I didn't like the projects or work I was assigned. I was stuck and miserable.
I worked long hours and never had time to focus on anything but work and preparing for the next meeting. Creating presentations, answering emails, and difficult conversations were my focus. Ugh.
Better is possible. Don't give up.
