Recognition

May 24, 2022 Denise Liebetrau

When was the last time you received handwritten note in the mail?

I'm thinking about this because my daughter is writing her thank you notes for her high school graduation gifts this week.

I remember doing this a lot in the 1980s and 1990s. Not so much now.

But when I receive one, wow! It is special. I feel recognized and it makes me smile. And I remember it for a long time.

So, I'm going to write one this week. Not sure who I'll send it too yet.

Many of us are working from home and we aren't able to stop by someone's desk to say, "Hey, you did a great job talking about X in the meeting. I appreciated how you shared the obstacles, possible solutions and the recommendation. Well done."

You can pay someone well but if you don't recognize them for the great work they do with your words and actions, the paycheck won't be enough.

Be intentional. Say thank you. Write someone a note. Put it in the mail so they get that hit of joy when they open their mailbox and read your words of appreciation.
